A Guide to the Best Vintage Shopping in Bristol
Bristol is known for its vibrancy, youthful population, and strong focus on local culture. After spending a weekend there, I’d advise that the place should also be known for it’s vintage shopping options too. Vintage shopping to Bristol is the Coliseum to Rome - you just can’t visit here without giving it a look.
Beyond Retro
20 Broadmead, Bristol BS1 3HA
I’m placing this one at the top of the list for a reason. Beyond retro is easily the best vintage store I’ve ever visited. Especially for mens wear, Beyond Retro provided the best selection of jackets, jeans and shoes that I’ve come upon, and is staffed by the best crew. The place is teeming with hard to find articles, and they also carry their own line of re-purposed and re-modelled clothing. I picked up a Carhartt jacket here for the most reasonable price imaginable - I’d thoroughly recommend Beyond Retro to anyone visiting Bristol.
Loot
6 Haymarket Walk, Bristol, BS1 3LN
www.gimmetheloot.co.uk
Located close to Cabot Circus, Loot offers a huge selection of hand-picked attire, with a strong focus on Americana. We spent a good half an hour in here. Carlie picked up an excellent onesie ski-suit for Italy and a beautiful dress, and I picked up an awesome flannel shirt. The selection is as broad as London or Manchester but with way more reasonable prices.
Uncle Sam’s American Vintage
54A Park Street, Bristol, BS1 5JN
www.uncle-sams-vintage-clothing-store.business.site
On easily the most popular shopping street in Bristol, Uncle Sam’s is a vintage, retro store that sells a range of US attire. You’ll find a heavy amount of varsity jackets in here, along with the usual stretch levi’s, dickies, and overalls. the prices here were slightly higher than elsewhere, but the decor is awesome - think jukeboxes.
urban fox
58 Corn Street, Bristol, BS1 2AZ
www.urbanfox.me
Just outside of St Nicholas Market, Urban Fox sells a range of vintage and retro clothing and accessories. This tiny little store is curated well, and had the best range of barbour jackets when I visited in 2019. In terms of women’s clothing, Carlie noted a huge range of faux fur, and some perfect 1980’s and 1970’s dresses on display.
Re-Psycho
85 Gloucester Road, Bristol, BS7 8AS
www.repsycho.co.uk
While I wouldn’t reccoment Re-Psycho based upon it’s clothing selection, I would note that this bad boy has a huge range of bags and other accessories. You also have the option of moving upstairs to their homeware selection, filled with post-war furniture, ornaments and artwork, or downstairs to their 60,000-strong record collection – you’re truly spoilt for choice.
Bristol is an awesome city, and one absolutely worth spending a bit of time in. If you’re here for the day or the weekend, I would absolutely encourage you to visit one of the fine purveyors above to sample their goods - who knows, you might stumble into an absolute find like we did! I’d also recommend you read our guide to visiting Bristol over here.
