THE COFFEE

NOMAD COFFEE

Carrer de Joaquín Costa, 26, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Nomad Coffee certainly don’t need the (minor) publicity that will be raised by me writing about them. These guys have 4 locations throughout Barcelona, a roastery, and a full line of apparel to boot. They frequently top lists for best specialty coffee in Barcelona, and after visiting, I can certainly see why. Nomad Coffee was a daily routine for me in town. I chose to visit their location on Carrer De Joaquin (right by MACBA), which is a hole in the wall 6 seater, serving up everything from a v60 to a flat white. Goodness me, I am glad I did. The coffee was awesome, the service excellent (Mick, the Barista is an absolute legend), and the vibe distinctly relaxed. Cannot recommend this place enough – sit yourself down there, order up an espresso or 12, and thank me later.

THE DRINK

BAR SALTVAGE

Carrer de Verdi, 50, 08012 Barcelona, Spain

Part natural wine bar, part share-plate restaurant, Bar Saltvage is everything that’s right about current trends in dining. Distinctly low on pretense, Bar Salvatge serves up some of the most interesting natural and organic wines that you’ll find in Spain, with a selection of the best Spanish, French and Italian wineries have to offer. What’s more, they also serve wine up by the tap, from their own label. The Grenache is particularly excellent – very fruit forward, but low in tannins and extremely drinkable. The food here, is also excellent. Expect solid Catalonian and European fare given a modern twist; honey-mustard glazed pork ribs, blackened garlic hummus, beef tartare.

THE FOOD

De La Cream

Carrer d'Enric Granados, 15, 08007 Barcelona, Spain

Whilst strictly not a meal, I feel fully justified in recommending De La Cream as a food option for anyone visiting Barcelona. I have never in my life eaten ice cream as good as what was served up here. I opted for a vanilla/hazelnut combination, and the flavours were indescribable. Just imagine the creamiest ice cream imaginable, and you’re still a ways off. The human mind is not capable of putting into words the excellence this ice cream bespeaks. I’d personally consider it sacrilege if you visited Barcelona without getting a treat from here. Go on, prove me wrong.
