Coffee, Drinks and Food in Dubrovnik

The very nice guide to Dubrovnik

Coffee

Cogito

With two locations in the old city of Dubrovnik (and throughout Croatia), Cogito Coffee have something of a burgeoning empire in town. Located just outside the Pluz gate, and by the harbour, both Cogito Coffee houses serve up the only third-wave coffee in Dubrovnik, ranging from drip based, filter and very, very decent cold brew. While we only tried the coffee at the Pluz Gate location, we heard that the quality is similar at their other spot in town – be warned though, both locations shut during the winter months. However, if you’re in need of a decent coffee whilst in Dubrovnik, definitely look no further than Cogito, you won’t find a better coffee in town, and the staff really know their stuff. While you’re there, wy not check out the nearby Buza Bar, read my guide on checking it out here!

Drinks

Buzz Bar

In a city notoriously overpriced, Buzz bar is something of an anachronism; a cheap, neighborhood bar, serving affordable beer and wine, with a definitely locale vibe. While the price for a half litre of beer are still higher than elsewhere in Croatia (welcome to Dubrovnik), you will be able to have a few beers here without breaking the bank. The best part? The soundtrack. On the two occasions we visited they were blasting out nothing but 80’s hits; with a stream of favourites by Journey, Europe, Bon Jovi and Kate Bush. Nothing better to accompany an ice cold beer. One important thing to note; smoking in doors is still legal in Croatia (as of 2020), so expect to be hit by a thick cloud of smoke upon entering. Less than ideal, but unavoidable if you’re looking to head out for a beer.

Food

Barba

Definitely serving the cheapest food you’ll find in Dubrovnik, Barba is a tiny, hole in the wall restaurant that serves up street food, really quick. The menu skews largely seafood based, but you can expect some decent burgers, some very, very tasty squid. My recommendation; the octopus burger. So tasty that I went back for a second the next day. Barba is really small though, so expect to queue and don’t expect to get a seat, especially during the high season. Luckily for you there are plenty of very, very scenic spots in town where you can eat, so you won’t struggle to find a seat better than any restaurant. Also, do note that Barba serves up the cheapest oysters anywhere in the Old Town, worthy of stopping by for that alone.
